Mr. Tommy (TJ) Lee Merritt Jr. was born in Crockett, Texas June 16th, 1960, to the union of
Tommy Lee Merritt Sr. and Kay Frances Hunter-Merritt.
TJ moved to Tucson, Arizona with his parents, Mr. Tommy Lee Merritt Sr. and Kay Frances
Hunter-Merritt. TJ was known for his high intellect and talent for sports. TJ, along with his
siblings, grew up in the bowling alley setting and he became incredibly skilled in the sport, so
much so that he was approached to become a pro bowler. During his years of bowling, he did
win numerous trophies in state and city competitions.
TJ attended Palo Verde High School in Tucson, Arizona and graduated in 1978. Shortly after, he
joined the United States Air Force and received an honorable discharge. We wholeheartedly
thank him for his service.
TJ was loved by many and throughout his complex, yet meaningful journey in life, in his own
way, he touched the hearts of many.
TJ transitioned on May 11th, 2026. Family that has preceded him in death is his mother, Kay
Frances Hunter-Merritt.
TJ leaves behind is father, Tommy Lee Merritt Sr., brothers, Anthony Dwaynn Merritt (Tony), Lee
Andrew Merritt (Andy), Michael Anthony Merritt, sister, La Trina Kay Yvette Merritt, nephews,
Curtis Lee Merritt, Devante Harkins-Merritt, Cordero Merritt, Kamryn Merritt, Elijah Merritt,
Joshua Merritt, nieces, Amie Merritt, Deja Woolard, Christina Merritt, and a host of family
members.
He will be missed and may his spirit be at rest. All honor and glory to The Most High God (Yah).
