HOMEGOING CELEBRATION CHOIR REHEARSAL- Thursday May 7, 2026, at 7:00PM -Greater St. Luke Powerhouse Memorial COGIC
Superintendent Emeritus Robert Lee Overstreet was born March 12, 1949, in DeQuincy, Louisiana, to Reverend Louis and District Missionary Anna Mae Overstreet. He was the third of four children born to this union. Both of his parents preceded him in death.
He earned an Associate of Arts degree from Phoenix College and a Bachelor of Arts degree from Arizona State University. He worked professionally as a seventh and eighth-grade teacher in the Roosevelt School District, teaching math and science. He retired to become a full-time entrepreneur in real estate and other endeavors.
Superintendent Robert Overstreet was married to his lovely wife, Missionary Annie Overstreet, for 39 years. Together they raised two daughters, Tanya Hicks and Stephanie Robielle Overstreet (his namesake), and were blessed with one grandson, Kaiden Harris.
Superintendent Emeritus Robert Lee Overstreet was an anointed vessel of God, a servant leader, and a master communicator, divinely called for such a time as this. He began preaching the gospel at the age of 13 and went on to celebrate 64 years of proclaiming the glorious gospel of Jesus Christ. In his early years of ministry, he traveled from city to city with his father and three brothers, Louis Jr., Albert, and Alvin Overstreet, singing and preaching about Jesus: His crucifixion, what He has done, and what He can do for others, as often declared in the words of Reverend Louis Overstreet Sr.
He served faithfully in his local church as Sunday School Superintendent, was ordained as an Elder in 1979, and later became Assistant Pastor of St. Luke Church of God in Christ.
In 1980, following the passing of his father, Reverend Louis Overstreet Sr., Superintendent Robert Overstreet ascended to the pastorate of St. Luke Church of God in Christ. He recognized that he was entrusted with carrying forward the sacred legacy of the gospel and shepherding the people of God. Through prayer and under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, he devoted himself to both the spiritual and structural needs of the church.
With unwavering faith and determination, he not only committed himself to the work but also inspired the congregation to do likewise, laboring together toward the completion of the new house of worship begun by his father prior to his passing. Although the building fund was limited, under Superintendent Overstreet’s leadership, the people remained steadfast in their resolve, and God provided, working miracle after miracle. As a result, the new sanctuary was completed, furnished, and dedicated in 1981.
Upon its completion, the church was renamed Greater St. Luke Powerhouse Memorial Church of God in Christ in honor of his late father. Superintendent Overstreet served with distinction as Senior Pastor for over 44 years, proudly representing the fourth generation of his family in the Church of God in Christ.
He served the Church of God in Christ in the Arizona Jurisdiction under the leadership of Bishop Felton King, Bishop Leroy Anderson, and Bishop Harvey T. Young. Prior to his elevation as Pastor and Superintendent, he served in the Evangelism Department, where he faithfully assisted Superintendent Sylvester Colter in conducting revivals, tarrying with souls at the altar, and laying hands on the sick throughout the state of Arizona.
He was later elevated to serve as Superintendent of Central District #2, subsequently renamed Powerhouse District, a position he held with distinction for 39 years. During his tenure, he also served as Chairman of the Board of Superintendents and as a member of the Ordination Board.
Superintendent Emeritus Robert Lee Overstreet devoted his life to standing on the Word of God and preaching the unadulterated gospel of Jesus Christ. He took great pride in mentoring the next generation, teaching life lessons, sharing biblical principles, and instilling sound doctrine. His life’s mission was to reach the lost and strengthen the saved. He was a pillar in the community and will be sorely missed.
He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Annie Laura Overstreet; two daughters, Tanya Hicks and Stephanie Robielle Overstreet; one grandson, Kaiden Harris; three brothers, Louis Jr. (Billie-Joyce) Overstreet, Albert (Charlene) Overstreet, and Alvin Overstreet Sr. (preceded in death by Shirley Overstreet); sister, Rosetta-Precious (Eddie) Crain; two uncles, Alvin Hodges and Albert Hodges; Godchildren, Robert Sanders, Aerycha Darby, and Kenny Bowman Jr.; along with a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, church family, and dear friends.
“Well done, thy good and faithful servant.”
