Rey Rodriguez was raised in Phoenix, Arizona, in the Golden Gate Barrio, where he was affectionately known by many as "Tamale Boy" and "Sawdust." On July 22, 2026, Rey
was reunited in Heaven with the love of his life and devoted wife of 52 years, his queen, Lydia Mendoza Rodriguez.
He was welcomed into eternal rest by his mother, Carmen Rodriguez; his sisters, Angie, Estela, and Juanita; his brothers, Manuel, Richard, and Eugene; along with many other beloved family members who preceded him in death.
Rey leaves behind a legacy of love through his children, Michelle and Rey Jr.; his cherished grandchildren, Bianca, Matthew, and Joesph; and his four precious great
grandchildren, Emma, Rafael, Mateo, and Armando. He is also survived by his brother, Jimmy; sisters Mona and Paula; and many loving cousins, nieces, nephews, extended
family members, and dear friends.
Rey had a gift for making people smile. He was the life of every gathering, always ready with a song, a laugh, or a story. His kind heart, generous spirit, and unwavering love for his
family and community touched the lives of everyone who knew him.
Though our hearts are heavy with his passing, we find comfort in knowing that his music, his laughter, and his love will continue to echo through the lives of those he leaves behind. Rey will be deeply loved, forever remembered, and profoundly missed.
