Phyllis LaKirk (Oliver) Williams was born May 6th, 1948, in Monroe, Louisiana, to Lacey Kirk Oliver and Ethel Slaton Oliver. She resided in Ruston, Louisiana, for two years before her family’s move to Los Angeles, California. She attended Virginia Road Elementary, Mount Vernon Junior High, Dorsey High School, and graduated from UCLA with a Bachelor's in Sociology in 1972. While attending UCLA, she worked at Wadsworth Veterans Hospital in Westwood, California. Around this time, she met her husband, Greg Williams, in December 1968. Upon her graduation in 1972, she changed careers from the VA to the Social Security Administration, where she worked for over 40 years, retiring there as a claims representative after helping countless applicants transition from work to retirement. Phyllis and Greg Williams were married on July 22nd, 1969, and were blessed with two bouncing baby boys, Damon and Jason. Phyllis and the family moved to Phoenix, Arizona, in 1988, where she became a member of Wesley United Methodist Church. As a member of Wesley, she was active in the Chancel Choir, where one of Phyllis’s favorite songs was, “Order My Steps”. Phyllis loved traveling, reading, and collecting movies. She had a heart of gold and was very generous. Phyllis always tried to be the best in everything she did - she would often say “never make it close” for any of her loved ones’ endeavors. A doting mother with undying love for her children, husband, family, and friends. She leaves to mourn her husband of almost 57 years, Greg; their two sons, Damon and Jason; her brother, Barry Oliver; and a host of friends and family who will cherish her memory. She was preceded in death by her mother, Ethel Oliver; her father, Lacey Kirk “Jack” Oliver; and her brother, Vincent Oliver.
