Washington Elementary School, Philadelphia High School, and Philadelphia Community College. She later moved to Phoenix, Arizona, where she continued her studies in nursing and earned her degree as a Licensed Practical Nurse.
Mary accepted Christ at a young age at Goodway Baptist Church in Philadelphia, Mississippi. After moving to Phoenix, Arizona, she continued her walk of faith at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, where she was active in Sunday School, Women’s Ministry, and other auxiliaries. She later joined First New Life Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Bishop Henry L. Barnwell, Sr., where she continued to faithfully serve in Sunday School, Women’s Ministry, Children’s Ministry, Spiritual Empowerment, and the Mother’s Board.
Her nursing career spanned more than 50 years and included service at Maricopa County Hospital, St. Joseph’s Hospital, Good Samaritan Hospital, and Phoenix Memorial Hospital, where she served as an Endoscopy Lab Nurse Specialist for the Western Region. She also worked at Tanner Gardens, Desert Rehabilitation Center, and other care facilities. Her compassion extended far beyond her profession, as she frequently visited individuals in their homes, assisting with their care, offering encouragement, and providing meals to those in need.
Mary had a powerful presence in her family, church, and community, and was loved and respected by all who knew her. Family was the center of her life, and she poured herself into those she loved with unwavering devotion, wisdom, sacrifice, strength, and faith. She was more than a mother. She opened her heart and home to many, earning the reputation of being a mother figure not only to her own children but also to extended family, friends, neighbors, and members of the community.
Through faith, perseverance, and determination, Mary built a legacy that continues through the lives of her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and all those she influenced. Her life demonstrated that obstacles can be overcome through hard work, prayer, unwavering faith in God, and steadfast devotion to family.
A devoted nurse, faithful servant, and compassionate caregiver, she spent her life caring for others both professionally and personally. Whether serving patients, supporting her church, visiting the sick, feeding those in need, or encouraging someone through a difficult season, Mary consistently placed the needs of others before her own. She was an example of sacrificial love, perseverance, strength, faith, and unwavering devotion to her family, proving through her life that with God all things are possible. She was a source of inspiration to generations of people and a living example of commitment, resilience, and grace.
