Marion "Bud" Bellamy, Jr. Obituary

Marion “Bud” Bellamy Jr., born on April 14, 1957, peacefully passed away surrounded by loved ones on December 30, 2024. Marion was a dedicated family man, mentor, and pillar of his community, whose passion for basketball and service inspired everyone around him.

Marion began his education at Bethune Elementary and continued to excel at St. Mary’s High School before graduating from East High School in 1975. With basketball at the forefront, he pursued higher education at Yavapai Community College and later a community college in Seattle. In 1980, Marion graduated from Oklahoma City University and returned to Arizona, where he would leave an indelible mark on the City of Phoenix.

In 1980, Marion began working for the City of Phoenix Parks and Recreation Department, serving at South Phoenix Youth Center and Hermoso Park as a Youth Counselor and Recreation Coordinator. His passion for equity and inclusion led him to transfer to the Equal Opportunity Department, where he continued to make a profound impact.

Marion is survived by his devoted wife, Barbara Bellamy, and her children, Jabbar Cheathem (Gosia Cheathem) Jermane Cheathem (Renee Latour). He was a proud father to Marcus Bellamy (Gillian Moise) Kiri Hill (Darnell Hill) and a grandfather to Maya, Dylan, Alexa, Zane, Raven and Zari. He also leaves behind his beloved mother, Julia Bellamy; sisters Regina White, Lisa Bellamy, and Toisan Bellamy; brothers Darayl and David Bellamy; cousin Norris Brown, and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.

Preceding Marion in death were his father, Marion Bellamy Sr.; cherished Uncle Leroy Davis; Aunt Wanda; and mentors Eddie Johnson, Coach Richard Thompson, and Paul Goebel from St. Mary’s High School.

Marion’s legacy of love, mentorship, and service will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.
