LeRoy Brewer (nicknamed Lovey) was born in Fulton, Arkansas on May of 1933 to Mary and Mackinley Brewer.  LeRoy was the 6th of seven children that grew up in Little Rock, Arkansas.  He moved to Phoenix in 1943 and attended Paul Laurence Dunbar School, Mary McLeod Bethune School and Carver High School.  He was drafted to the Army in 1953.  He spent his infantry in the army in Germany for 2 years.  He got out and reenlisted for Military police for 3 years in France. During his tenure in the armed services, he sang in the 21 male voice choir.

He also sang in a couple of quartet groups including The Voices of Wonder. He was a devoted usher for many years.  He received his deaconship under the care of Pastor Felton E. King.
