James Darnell Davis

James Davis was born on April 2, 1977, to Gwendolyn Elaine Colter and James Davis of Phoenix, Arizona. James was the only son born to Gwendolyn along with two sisters Tamieka and Nicole.

He was a handsome, bubbly and chunky big baby with a head full of hair.

Preceding him in death are his grandmother Willie Leona Wormly and Deacon Adolphus Colter and his niece Sanaa Le’Laine.

James was affectionately known as Pooh to his family, his cousins and his friends. Donnie. DNice and DNas were other names he went by as well.

James knew of Christ at an early age and attended church with his mother and grandmother. He attended Mary McLeod Bethune Elementary School up until he uprooted to Sacramento, California with his grandmother and two cousins Curtis Eugene and Monyae Na’Re.

While in California, James attended Smythe Elementary School. He then attended Grant High School where he would begin playing basketball for a couple of years.While enjoying his time on the basketball team at Grant High School, it was then he, Curtis and Monyae had to relocate back to his hometown Phoenix, Arizona. He eventually enrolled into Washington High School here in Phoenix and also joined their basketball team as well.

While attending Washington High School, James would then meet his Highschool Sweetheart Felicia Glass and to that union came James, Jykese, Jonzell and Jaylen Davis. All of Phoenix, Arizona.

James worked a few different jobs in his early and late 20’s such as the State Fair and the Sky Harbor Airport.

James was a family man. He absolutely loved his sons. He loved having family and friends over to watch sports and listen to music. His favorite color was hunter green and his favorite football team was the Pittsburgh Steelers! He was well known and he also created some great memories with his loved ones.

Later in his adult life, James suffered from a stroke, which would eventually lead to him fighting many battles seen and unseen.

On April 2, 2026, on his birthday, James’s life came to an end. It followed a difficult struggle with mental health and physical illness.

We choose to remember the light he brought into the world rather than the darkness of his final battle.

James leaves to cherish his memory, mother Gwendolyn Colter. Four sons James, Jykese, Jonzell, and Jaylen. Two sisters Tamieka and Nicole. Two brothers Shawn and Brian. Aunties Cheryl (Clarence) Dean, Patricia Smith, Linda Lavalais all of Phoenix, Arizona. An aunt from Virginia, Veronica Wormly.

He leaves to also cherish his uncle Gregory (Wife Regina) Colter. Larry Colter and M.D. Wormly. Also a host of nieces and nephews, cousins, friends and also his family. A special auntie, Angela Horn and his favorite cousins Edward Holloman. Terrence James (R.I.P.) Robert Burgess. Wayman Troop Westbrooks. Bret McNeal. Ricky Woods aka Scooter and Bryant Horn.

James’s family requests that you honor his memory by being kind to yourselves and each other.
