Henry Matthew Weaver, lovingly known to family, friends and generations of clients as “Doc,” passed away peacefully on March 9, 2026, in Phoenix Arizona at the age of 87.
Henry was born in Moncks Corner, South Carolina, to Beatrice Weaver Hayward and Joseph Hayward. He grew up in a close-knit community where he graduated from Berkeley Training School in 1957 where he shortly after, enlisted in the United States Air Force. During his service, Henry thoroughly trained in Judo, earning a brown belt, and served his country honorably until his discharge in September 1962.
Following his military service, Henry made his way to Arizona, where he would build both a career and a family. He attended the Arizona Barber College and began what would become a remarkable 55-year career as a barber. For those who sat in his chair, Henry was way more than someone who just “cut hair.” He was a trusted listener, a storyteller, and a friend. Over the years, many people referred to him as “Doc.”
Henry was a man of many talents and interests. He practiced judo, captured many of life’s experiences and memories through photography, expressed his creativity and penmanship through the art of calligraphy. He was his household's handyman, who could fix nearly anything with focus and skill. Above all, Henry is known for his warm spirit, charisma, and subtle humor. He carried himself with his head held high, often reminding those around him to, “Walk with the Lord.”
Family meant everything to Henry. He leaves behind his beloved wife of 64 years, Lennie; his daughter, Cassandra; his granddaughter, Amanda; and his great granddaughter, Anastasia. He is also survived by his sister Jeanette; his niece, Ramona; his nephews Kevin, Joseph, and Ronald; and his aunt, Dorothy. Henry is preceded in death by his son, Dwane.
Henry’s life was one of service, craftsmanship, faith and love. Whether through conversations shared in a barber’s chair, the lessons passed down to family, or the laughs and smiles he could put on even a stranger's face, his impact and memory will never be forgotten. He will be missed dearly and lovingly by all who knew him.
