"Duane Marten Jensen, age 64, passed away on January 25, 2026, in Phoenix, Arizona. He was born on August 21, 1961, in Syracuse, New York, to Marten Jensen and Violet Sailer. During his early years, Duane’s family moved to New Mexico before eventually settling in Phoenix, which became his lifelong home.
Standing at 6'6", Duane was a gentle giant—simple in the best sense of the word—with a heart that was open, kind, and genuine. He loved life and embraced it fully, finding joy in people, laughter, and shared experiences. He was a devoted music lover, especially passionate about his favorite band, Rush, and he found freedom and peace in driving, the open road always calling to him.
Duane built a lifelong career in typewriter and business machine repair and sales. As the owner of Phoenix Typewriter, he not only ran a successful business but also built a respected legacy within the industry and the typewriter community—affectionately known as the “typosphere.” His knowledge, craftsmanship, and generosity left a lasting impression on customers, and friends alike.
In his younger years, Duane proudly called himself a “river rat,” spending countless hours tubing the Salt River with his self-made river box stereo. He also enjoyed race cars and had a deep appreciation for music that stayed with him throughout his life.
Duane is survived by his children, John (Angela) and Stacy (Manny); his eight grandchildren (Isaac, Isabel, Marcus, Annabella, Branden, Rylee, Ashlynn, and Jeremiah); his brother, Andy; his sisters, Anita and Faye; and many other beloved family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents.
While our hearts are broken now, they will heal with the comfort of knowing how deeply loved and cherished our father was by countless individuals from many walks of life.
The family will hold a private, intimate celebration of life.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to everyone who has offered support, shared memories, and surrounded us with kindness during this time. Your love has meant more than words can express.
Rest in peace, Duane. You are no longer in pain. We love you and will miss you greatly. The world will be a quieter place without your sense of humor and unforgettable laugh."
