Dale Alvin Dyer Obituary

Dale Alvin Dyer was born on November 28, 1951 in Ashtabula, OH to Wilbur and Estelle Dyer. He passed away on Thursday, March 16, 2023.  He was the youngest of 11 children. His father had a love of astronomy which he passed down to Dale who then tried to do the same with his children.  Dale may have been small in stature but that did not stop his love for playing basketball. He was so quick, possessed a lethal jump shot, and his lay ups were incredible.  He never lost his love for the game.

Dale enlisted in the  Air Force in 1972, he proudly served his country until he retired in 1993.  Dale began his service at Luke Air Force Base, was also stationed at March Air Force Base, had temporary duty in Turkey and retired at Wright Patterson Air Force Base. While he was serving in the Air Force, he took advantage of educational opportunities and ultimately became a physician’s assistant.  Dale loved serving in the medical profession, helping people throughout his career.  Even after he retired from the Air Force he continued to work as a physician’s assistant until illness prevented him from doing so.

The true substance of Dale was evident as he preserved through a devastating stroke.  Dale was resilient and determined to maintain as much of his independence as he could.  He continued to be interested in the world, in fact he was elated to see the first elected black president. He could always be found singing along to Earth Wind and Fire songs, watching sci-fi and horror movies.  Prior to his stroke he was a quiet gamer and continued to be interested in video games, often interrupting his grandson so he would have to start over.

The greatest love of Dale was his family. He delighted in his children and grandchildren.  He would be cloud nine for weeks after a visit from his big sister Tootie.  Again, he may have been small in stature but his heart was immeasurably big. Dale was a man who enjoyed simple pleasures in life like sitting on the patio enjoying beautiful weather, watching basketball, rooting for the Cleveland Browns, and pranking his children.

He was a loving father, grandfather, and brother. His memory will live on the hearts and minds of his children, Genene Dyer, Jammal Dyer, Christopher Dyer and Erica Jones. His sister Dorothy Marshall, 8 grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews. He will be dearly missed but his legacy will live forever through his family.
