Brita Renee Gregory was born on November 19, 1956, to Mary Robinson Gregory and was raised with her stepfather Bill Gregory, in Cleveland, Ohio. Brita also known as “Renee”/ “Bunny” grew up in New Jersey and was the oldest of five siblings, where she attended Burlington Township High School. During her childhood years, she traveled and lived in Junction City, Kansas and Germany as an Army brat.

With the structure of her stepfather being in the Army, Renee during her elementary years, was a Girl Scout. During this time, she developed a love for music and dance. In high school, she played the accordion.

In 1973, Renee came to Phoenix, Arizona with her boyfriend Larry Bodine, and together they welcomed their son Rasaan Gregory. With a love for water, she later moved to California where she embraced life at the local beaches, living the California dream. In 1978, Renee moved back to Arizona where she met Cornell Washington, and together they had Khalid Washington and daughter TaTanisha Gregory.

As Renee began to settle with her children, she worked for Mountain Bell as a Supervisor before pivoting her career toward her passion for travel. In 1994, Renee attended flight attendant school for American Airlines. During her years in Phoenix, Renee valued education and continued her studies at Gateway Community College and Glendale Community College in childcare health and psychology.

With her true soulful spirit and her gift for never allowing life's challenges to hinder her smile, Renee always turned to music, a good cocktail, and a good ol' pair of blue jeans. She would always find ways to make everyone around her laugh and remain encouraged, no matter what life brought their way.

Renee truly lived a life of encouragement. When her health took an unexpected turn, she underwent open heart surgery on April 28, 2025. For an entire year, Renee did everything in her power to fight through, and for this, we celebrate her strength and her journey of life.

Renee is preceded in death by her mother, Mary Robinson Gregory, and her sister Dietrich A Robinson Gregory.

She leaves to cherish her memory: her son Rasaan Gregory of Phoenix, Arizona; her son Khalid Washington of Phoenix, Arizona; her daughter TaTanisha Gregory of Peoria, Arizona; one grandson Jatavion Gregory of Phoenix, Arizona; three sisters, Cheryl L Gregory Artis, Angelia G Gregory, Nicole M Gregory Watson; and grand puppies, Brooklyn and Boston Gregory.
