Dear Family and Friends,
Betty Joyce Thompson, age 70, was called home to rest in heaven on April 17, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family.
Born August 5, 1955, Betty lived a life defined by deep devotion to her family and an unwavering commitment to serving others. She was a woman of incredible strength, known for her leadership and a presence that commanded respect. A legendary cook, Betty, ensured her kitchen was the heart of her home, where the door was always open and the table was always set. Her absence leaves a void that can never truly be filled.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents Ruth Bea Walker and Roosevelt Walker: her brothers Tommie McWilliams, John Lewis, Henry Lewis, and Donnie Walker: her sisters Ruth Walker and Verniece Powell.
Waiting at heaven’s gate to guide her home is her beloved husband, Lafayette “Larry” Thompson Sr. Betty’s greatest pride was the family she built with her husband. She is survived by her three children, Larry Thompson Jr, Shawntay Thompson and Mitzi Thompson. 12 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren, all whom she adored. She is also survived by her brothers Rudell Walker, Lendell Walker, Steve Walker, Larry Walker and Michael Walker; her sisters Iva Wells, Ivy Johnson, Gloria Sutton and Shirley Walker.
Betty’s life was a testament to the power of service and the impact of an open heart. As we remember her, we carry forward the sentiment: “She loved deeply and served faithfully. The light she carried into every room she entered won’t go out…It lives on in every life she touched.”
